Spring Term2026
Enrollment: 197

Official course evaluation responses and student learning feedback.

Question 1 of 2

Q: Please comment on how the course positively supported your learning.

1

Deepak it the goat -- Moses Cain

2

Easily the best engineering professor. After completing the course material I get the impression that it would have been challenging without the quality of teacher. The method he used to involve the class and give clear examples of what is important to understand has so far not been achieved by any other professor I have had this far. -- Jeremiah Snyder

3

There were plenty of resources through canvas and office hours were easily accessible. Classes focusing on application of material helped me be very successful in this course. Various ways to demonstrate your learning in class through credit opportunities.

4

I enjoyed learning about what he does outside of class and learning how to think like an engineer as a whole. I also enjoyed the breathing exercises.

5

Lots of extra credit options helped. -- Alora Dennett

6

We took a lot of time going over example problems which is one of the things that helps out the most in terms of the actual course work of the class. Our professor also made the class very engaging and enjoyable to be there. -- Tygh Boyer

7

Dr. Sharma did an excellent job walking through all of the necessary steps to understand the material. He was always friendly and welcoming. He spoke a little fast but generally he was very clear and easy to understand. He brought humor and humility to every class. He really seemed to care that we understood the material and were comfortable participating. -- Dominic Spado

8

All of it. The entire class was great, no notes. -- Alexander Herrera

9

I loved having DS as a professor this term. His teaching style really resonated with me. I liked how he would alternate between example problems, doing one and then giving us the opportunity to try. I think this helped me fix errors in my learning immediately and made me feel really confident in my work outside of class. This was also the first time in a long time that I got 100% on an engineering exam, and I felt like I genuinely really understood everything from this course and could demonstrate it comfortably. Out of all my classes this term, I think that I learned the most, and feel most confident in this class. I approached this class feeling really intimidated because I had heard from other students that this course it challenging, but with DS as the professor, it felt so comfortable and fun to learn. You can really tell that he cares for his students and wants to give us the best opportunities to learn and grow. -- Ruby Greaves

10

The course gave me a better understanding on how to think about physical situations in both a 2d and 3d view

11

Dr. Sharma is a very positive and friendly teacher who made the experience as a whole much better and promoted active learning, allowing students to try questions, get them wrong, learn, and try again. -- Lochlan Stevenson

12

It was helpful to have the final answers for the homework so I could check if I understood the concepts clearly and figure it out on my own if I made a mistake. -- Matthew Zitzelberger

13

Loved this class! Would recommend this professor to other students. Sharma's class is very interactive and he makes learning fun. 10/10 professor.

14

His lectures were extremely engaging, and gave practice problems broken down onto steps which made the material easy to learn. Hands down best lecture experience ive had at OSU. -- Jakob Gruenberg

15

From what I had heard coming into the class, the dynamics is really challenging. Dr. Sharma made the concepts seem straight-forward. He didn't make the problems easy but the way he explained the material made a lot of sense to me. He also did example problems for the majority of the class time which is something I have been hoping ME professors would do! It helps me learn the process to take when solving a variety of problems not just one specific type. -- Madeline Cooper

16

well layed out course and good communication

17

Did a very great job at teaching and made this class very interactive. GREAT JOB!! -- Daniel Longoria

18

Very nice and patient -- Jimmy Wu

19

Being able to view the updated lecture notes after class was very helpful. -- Benjamin Perez

20

I really enjoyed having Dr. Deepak this term. The environment he created in lecture was much more inviting than any other ME professors I've had and I appreciated that he put genuine effort into connecting with his students. Integrating breathing exercises and clapping felt a little silly until I realized how much more engaged I felt than other lectures. I felt like the workload was quite reasonable and the topics covered in lecture were very relevant to the assigned work and exams. -- William Kaplan

21

I thought Dr.Sharma was great, however I think his lectures can be improved though especially with how we involves everyone. His involvement is great, I really enjoy his breathing exercises, but sometimes the lectures are kind of up in the air of how you learn from it.

22

I appreciated that the homework had the answers available so that students can check their work to make sure they are solving problems correctly.

23

You gave so many amazing chances to get extra credit and expand our learning on tough problems!

24

Professor Sharma is great. Wanted the best for the students and truly made it his goal that we understood what went on in the class. -- Jacob Gehley

25

great instructor -- Kien An Quach

26

The lectures were very helpful to the class -- Anthony Payne

Question 2 of 2

Q: Please comment on how the course could better support your learning.

1

Does make the class do the problem for extra points but does lead to other students to talk to each other and the whole class becomes very rowdy. I love this teacher but I think he needs to be put in a smaller class and make his way up to a 300-student class -- Jimmy Wu

2

If I were to pick out a issue with the course it would be that while the lecture was great the online reading materials could be formatted a bit better it was sometimes confusing. -- Jeremiah Snyder

3

I wasn't the biggest fan of the changes to lecture where we had to go up to get questions checked. In my opinion it just felt quite slow and not very beneficial for the majority of students at a given time. I much preferred getting 5-10 min to try it on my own and then seeing and explanation to follow what I got wrong as we did in the start of the term. My only other feedback is that the scheduling for due dates got a bit mixed around throughout the term and it made it slightly harder to pace out the workload. Thankfully I never had any real issues but I think it would have been nice to have it a little more consistent. -- William Kaplan

4

I think more understanding of the concepts. I know that students who take this course should know their physics and statics, however I feel like he should show more concept material.

5

I think less time should be spent in lecture checking off individual students for extra credit. I don't mind it happening occasionally, but sometimes a line would form and it would take up a large potion of lecture.

6

I felt this course was pretty good, so no complaints!

7

Sometimes we would spend long periods of time on one problem where there wasn't a lot of instruction. This may have been from either waiting for someone else to solve the problem or waiting for the instructor. -- Tygh Boyer

8

Dr. Sharma could speak a little slower and some demo pieces would help with some of the material. -- Dominic Spado

9

Points for grading could be clearer, otherwise great class. -- Alexander Herrera

10

I honestly can't think of anything that I would change about this class. It was so fun and well organized. I never really felt stressed or overwhelmed with what was asked of me to complete each week. -- Ruby Greaves

11

As good as it could be. -- Jacob Gehley

12

I would like for the reading material to have alternatives since I didn't always understand the reading in canvas until I watched videos

13

Having a better organized/clearer equation sheet would be nice. -- Lochlan Stevenson

14

During class there were very long periods of time that were given to go up and check answers, and during most of that time I ended up having nothing to do because I had already finished. This led to at least 30-45 minutes of wasted time. I think it would be better if this was an optional thing at the end of the lesson. To give those who don't need the help the chance to leave and work on homework outside of class. -- Matthew Zitzelberger

15

I quite liked the course structure!

16

A little bit of clarification for parallel axis theorem would've been nice (when we had to adjust our rod formula from 1/3 to 1/12 depending on the situation).

17

I cant find many solid critiques, the only thing is the canvas page is a little unorganized but its still much better than some of my other classes. -- Jakob Gruenberg

18

This course was one of the best I have taken at OSU so far. -- Madeline Cooper

19

I feel like it was great. I just got confused on the 3D stuff so maybe some extra practice for that section would have been nice. -- Anthony Payne
